A 1999 model year motor will not work with 6Y8 gauges. 6Y8 gauges were not offered until 2006 and even then they only worked with EFI four strokes and HPDI two strokes that were produced in 2006 and later.

The correct digital display gauge for a 1999 model year Yamaha is the 6Y5, repeat 6Y5, multifunction tachometer and speedometer.

and what do you not understand about Boscoe99 saying the gauge you have is not designed to work with your 1999 model motor?
