There's a good chance the storm will track through my neck of the woods, Tampa Bay. Though being a native Floridian, I know from experience not to count on the storm until it makes its turn north from Cuba.
With that said, I'm still on the fence as to what I should do with my boat IF the storm is tracking my way. Its trailered in a secured outdoor facility. The concern of it being tossed is possible. But my greatest concern is the flying debris. A piece of any type of debris thats flying through the air at 100+mph is gonna do serious damage if it connects with my boat. I've got a couple days to brainstorm though.Jason

My boat is in the same type of storage. Only thing I am doing is removing the cover. I don't think it needs a sail. Not prone to flooding there and it is insured.
I am going to focus on house and keeping cars from being trapped by trees....
The more I see a shift West, the more likely I am to stay.

These may be the last photos I post of my F225... the F90 Mercaha may do better under the house.
But even if either survives the wind, there's the possibility of a 10 foot storm surge...
Neighbors up and down the canal have boats just sitting on their elevator lift - with a couple of 3/8" ropes tied to the dock?

During Carla we had the boat and trailer chained down to the slab next to cabin in Matagorda Tx. area
When it was all over we had a trailer still chained to the slab and that was all .
A cleaned off slab with a trailer.
Water is finally dropping here from Harvey.
Clean up is ahead.
My place did not get any damage from wind or water, but lots of people were not that lucky

Interesting dilemma. Storm surge may float and smash the whaler up under the house. Would surge also snap the concrete anchors on the Sailfish? Do you leave plug in or out? What if you had some flex cords powerful enough to
anchor the boat from wind but would flex if it floated?
Very difficult situation....feel your pain. Of course the house is the most important issue.
Where are you headed Fairdeal? Surely you will not ride this one out?
Hell if it keeps shifting away, the winds may fade a bit. I still worry about the surge....Comment

By myself - I would have stayed. Have 100 gallons of stored potable water, was going to fill the Sailfish fuel tank for my (Yamaha!) portable generator.
I imagine its going to be at least a few weeks before power is restored, roads cleared, supplies normal - best case.
There are >40 bridges on US1 between the mainland and Key West - if even one gets taken out.....Comment

myself, I would have hooked up the boat loaded my cats and hightailed it.
having paddled about Princeville/Tarboro after Floyd doing rescue work and paddled about here a few times I have a respect for no food,no water no electricity and 90*+ heat.
surviving a storm is no mean feat,surviving after the storm may be.Comment

1981 -2006 had to work them all...
Been boarding up other folks houses(besides my own), fixed two generators alone yesterday, (float needle varnished and wouldn't move).
Boat got a nice rain water bath! That's strapped down(with the big HD tractor trailer ties) to the lift I-beam, so it's not "sailing", might become a sub thou!Scott
