    That won't work. Reason being that the serial number is just one part of the complete engine ID.

    There may be numerous models with the same serial number of 300116. For instance, 63PX 300116, 69JX 300116, 6G5L 300116. The prefix to the serial number is changed so as to denote a specific engine.

        Take a look at these models that use the carburetor solenoid valve.

        61A-86120-00-00 YAMAHA SOLENOID VALVE ASY

        Also, see if your friends model has an electric fuel pump mounted below the carburetors.

        I suspect this may be what is known as a V76X model:

            it definatly has 3 2bbl carbs.
            it is most definatly NOT a 3.1L.
            however I have never seen a 90-93 225 with the a&b solinoids nor ever rebuilt the prime start pump.
