did they explain how the oil pump would cause the temp light?
I would think lack of lubrication would eat bearings, rods, cam, and crank

The repair didn’t resolve the blinking light. I called my old mechanic from Fort Lauderdale. He said.. pull the sensor plug & tell me if the blinking light continues. It did! He said “your not overheating” gauge, computer, or wiring issue. Side note.. I did need the oil pump replaced either way.

how do do you know it was needed?
as I said long before find out what will cause the light to blink.
over heat will not do that

I pulled the L/U myself. There was oil motor oil leaking down the shaft. Tracking this down is above my pay grade at this point. I'll go back tomorrow to give these guys one more shot at it.

Picked it up. They said they reset the computer & the light turned off. No way they could possibly know without running the boat.

Reset button. Similar, but different, to the Easy button.

what could make the temp light flash?

I thought it was the tach not set properly.
                  anyone have any other ideas

I've searched the internet net high & low looking for anyone who's experienced something similar. What I've found is when there's a blinking temp light on the older yamaha gauges it's constant which has always been resolved by changing the gauge settings to match the motor i.e. 2stroke vs 4 stroke. My blinking light comes & goes but it always happens at high RPM's. This is why I thought I had a true overheat. I ran the boat yesterday without any incidents, yet the light continues to blink. The new oil pump appears to have resolved the oil light/alarm at startup. I don't intend to let it go... I'll get the damn thing figured out at some point.
