  • water pump 225 four stroke

I see nothing in the manual or service schedule about water pump servicing or changing. I looks like a fairly big job. Should it be serviced or changed and if so how often.
Maybe I'm just overly concerned its my first outboard. My I/O
needs a new impeller every other year.
    Any info would be helpful.

Go to:Yamaha Outboard Maintenance Tips for videos/explanations for many procedures including water pump replacement.....it's not a very difficult job for an average mechanic....just study the videos/tutorials, take your time and in a couple of hours you should be good to go....

It's an easy and fun job to DIY.

Don't make the rookie mistake that I did - ensure that the shifter socket engages the shift pin when you re-mount the leg!

And change your drive shaft bushing while you're at it!

SIM (link above) has a good tutorial and sells all the parts you'll need to do the job.

job takes about 1.5 hours, 2 if its Monday.
anymore than 2.5 and your milking it.
while you have the wear plate off, remove the slinger and inspect the drive shaft seal garter spring.
