    No rod, boscoe was saying to use the 12 volt ac from the other side of the transformer for the test signal. Since it's ac it's at 50 or 60 hz which should move the tack needle. The 12 volt dc just powers the gauge. It made sense to me. If it's an accepted practice idk, but seems logical.

      ok, be way easier to simply test the send voltage. unplug the green wire,find a known good ground, start the engine.
      if voltage is there the circuit is ok, if voltage moves up and down then the tach has failed.
      5 min test.
      remember unlike some other brands this signal has NOTHING to do with the charging system.
      its entirely ECU generated.
