Don't know about targeting but the Defense Department probably paid three times what anyone else would have paid for the bogus part!

Probably 15 to 20 years ago. A lot of fly by night Parts brokers in the US and all over the world for that matter.

There was a convair 580 that crashed as the result of conterfiet parts installed in 1989....that started the ball rolling. We had to do a course in identifying suspect parts.

Still happening I suspect ....but a lot less now I hope.
