Hi Newbie here - well at least with this motor.. Can anyone help or lead me towards some tech spec/info/repair manual etc for a late 80's/early 90's 40HEO (6H4-L)[?] Yam Outboard. Much appreciated..

Yamaha' web site, America's Most Diverse - Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA, Home have manuals for USA model 1984 and up. The 40ELN model was a 1984 3 cylinder 2 stroke oil injection model but sure if same as your model.

I did not find the manual on the yamaha-motor site in an online format (though did find the 40ELN in hard copy for about $80!), but the other info (year!) allowed me to find what looks to be the correct owners handbook:
