  • V4 2 Stroke No Spark?

I have a 1986 115ETG V-4 which seems to be running on only the 2 port side cylinders. I've noticed smokey exhaust, cold cylinder heads on the starboard side and cold coolant water. The engine stalls immediately when put in gear. I changed the plugs on that side, ran the engine for a few minutes, then checked them, they were oily. Wiring seemed to be clean and tight. Is there a simple test to determine whether this is electrical or fuel related?

Buy or make a spark board and hook up to all plugs wires and crank over motor while watching to see if all are sparking properly.
If they are not then you will need a peak reading volt meter made for these ignition systems or a DVA adapter on a Digital Volt Meter and an ohm meter to test the ignition system to find the problem.
You will also need a Yamaha service/repair manual to tell you how to test and what the specs are for your motor.

If they all are sparking then it is time to carbs , fuel pumps, etc.
