  • need ideas on how to fix this

I have a 2003 75 Hp four stroke yamamerc. There is a small hole where the shift shaft fits into the lower end of the crankcase. I have an engine oil leak (pretty bad) at this point. Does anyone know what the block configuration should be at this point ? Is it a closed cup type of arrangement that just acts as a guide for the shift shaft and closed from the inside of the crankcase? I can stick a probe into this hole easily 4". Any suggestions on a permanent repair without replacing the crankcase? maybe a weld job?
    Thanks
    Rob

I.m not sure what hole or where on crankcase you are referring to, you might take it to your dealer to see if they can look at it and give you an idea what the solution would be.

What are you talking about when referring to crankcase?
Is it the lower unit or the motor crank case where the crank is located?

      Why not post a picture.

I am talking about the powerhead crankcase. In particular, the forward half of the crankcase and just below the rectifier. I will see if I can get a decent picture to post.
        Thanks
