  • 86 115 oil loss problem

I have a 1986 yamaha 115 that when stored, drains oil from the cowl mounted
oil tank into the cylinders. If stored for a few weeks, the tank looses about 2 inches of oil and starting the motor is a real bear. Once started, the engine runs great but I think it smokes more than it should. Can the oil inj pump syphon the oil into the cylinders when sitting? I now turn the oil valve off when not in use but I really want this thing to work like it was desined to do. Any Ideas?

There was a problem with the original oil pump check valves leaking. Look at oil pump, if it's a Keihin brand oil pump then replace it with 6E5-W1320-00-00 Mikuni oil pump kit.
