  • Prop Size? Ran My 2004 Key West 216 Bay Reef, Yamaha f150 Again Today

I checked prop size today, it is a 15 1/4 x 17 exactly what Key West ran in their test. With 1/2 fuel, two people they're getting 31.8 mph @ 4,000 rpms and 44.4 mph wide open but at 5,700 rpms (6,000 max). I ran full fuel (80 gallons) and one well built, air grabbing T-Top, results: 25 mph @ 4,000 and 36.5 wide open throttle only turning up 5,100. The Key West 21CC is 100 lbs. heavier than my boat using a 14 1/4 x 17 prop getting 6000 rpms. Am I over propped, rpm gauge wrong, the motor sounds as if it is running wide open, it seems to be screaming but of course I cannot be sure, fuel filter is new. At 4,200 rpms I cruise at 30 mph on GPS and can live with that unless I find out I'm robbing myself out of over 4 mph at cruise speed. UGH!!! Any advice is greatly appreciated.

you can have your Tach tested against a shop tach if you are not sure it is correct.
You are over proped or have a motor problem if you are not hitting the proper WOT RPMs.

Check out this prop slip calculator and see what it tells you.
