Engine won't restart for 3-4 hours.

I have a 2003 250hp vx saltwater series. After running the boat for almost any period of time, the engine will not restart for about 3-4 hrs. If I take the plugs out and dry them, the engine sometimes restarts right away. Any idea what could be causing this?
