  • starter problem

    Hi,
Just tried to start my 2006 F250. Starter raises to engage but does not turn. Flywheel is free. Worked fine this morning and yesterday. PTT works fine, electrical on dash is correct, gear in neutral.

Batteries good- starboard engine starts just fine.

    Any hints?
    Thanks,
    Pete

Did you try jumping the stater direct to the battery, just to see if your getting enough juice to the stater. I had the same problem last week, and to find out it was a bad cable, even though they looked new, no corrosion, and they had the right voltage to the stater. When I went to start it, it would just sound like a dead battery.

      thanks for the tip

That is exactly how it sounds- the f250 housing is a bit difficult to access the starter power lugs. Just had it serviced three weeks ago so I will check with service guy, but low electric is a good lead to follow. Nothing else makes sense. Thanks for the reply. Let you know how it goes when I access the terminal. The other end looks good and clean- next to the battery switch.

      Thanks again,
      Pete
