  • Timing light

Good Morning, I have never repaired a outboard before but I have a new to me but used 1987 115 hp and I am going to give it a try. I got a manual and have read a lot, one thing I can't find is the # 1 cylinder also doe's anyone use a actron CP I7529 digital timing light, should I be using the 2 cylinder or 4 cylinder side of the light? I guess by my questions you guys know I'm already in trouble.
    Thanks

    Set it mechanically...

You don't need a timing light. Set the timing mechanically. There should be instructions there in the service manual. Basically turn the flywheel till the number one cylinder timing marks are on the correct mark (like the 2 BTDC mark or whatever it calls for...) and line up the timing arm point under the flywheel with the line scribed on the bottom side of the flywheel. Timing on the carbed Yamahas is mechanically con*****ed this way. Or if you have the Seloc manual it's described in there too.
