T9.9 question

I have posted problems before about the uneven performance of my 2002
Yamaha High Thrust 9.9 outboard. Usually, I am told to clean my carb.
My engine is generally working fine except under certain circumstances, it
lets me down. Passing under a bridge yesterday, it konked out and
fortunately I had enough way on to get through. It had run fine for
a half hour previous to this. It seems like after running the engine for any
length of time, it gets ornary when I lower the rpm to a slow speed.

Could the gas be going bad? I put in high octane in June and added some
stable to that. The engine is not run that often, maybe once a week for
an hour, since it is used as an auxilary power source for a sailboat. This
problem seems to come and go, but more prevalently under the conditions
I mentioned.

I also am experiencing a throttle las when going from idle to increased
power. I have to turn the throttle handle almost 1/3 it's full range before
the engine takes off. Once running, it has plenty of power and runs
smoothly.

So basically I have two problems, which may or may not be related.

Any ideas on the causes and suggestions for a cure?

3 or 4 month old gas is probably bad. Most of the time it is a fuel related problem. Did engine start right back up? Did you have to pump primer bulb to get it restarted?
Might check throttle linkage adjustment to see if lot of slack in cables.

I hope it is just a question of stale gas, since the season is almost over and
I can get the engine running again after one or more restarts.

Are there throttle adjustments in the tiller handle? I don't think my owner's
manual has instructions about that. Are there any general references
available online for this problem?
