1992 yamaha jetski

I got a 1992 yamaha WRA650Q on a deal with friend. The ski runs pretty good, but the exhaust is very loud.I removed the upper muffler and disassembled it but did not see anything wrong. This is the first time that I have worked on a jetski and dont know quite how it is supposed to work. I would think that it would be something simple. I am pretty familar with other watercraft and do my own repairs. If someone has had this problem, please let me know.I have just discovered that the water-box has been removed and replaced with an elbow. Could this be my problem? Thanks garye

Sounds like someone has put some kind of aftermarket exhaust on it. You might let a dealer look at it to see if might be problem.
