  • Yamaha 2004 F25 thermostat

I have a 2004 F25 outboard with 300 hours that has been flushed with the built in flush kit after every use. Recently it has lost some water pressure and I pulled the thermostat to find that out that the inside of the thermostat has a lot of salt build up. The other side was clean.
I am assuming that the flush kit doesn’t really allow that side to get cleaned? I am sure with cold water and the engine not running the thermostat will not open.
The tell tale seemed to have some trash that I cleared and it started pumping well again.

I am going to replace the impeller, but can you run this engine without the thermostat? I am on the gulf coast in hot weather.

    Thanks for your time!

don't run motor without thermostat, it'll never reach operating temperature of 130F to 170F, motor will run rich, not good. buy a new thermostat and install. Good Luck!
