704 single binnacle throttle control - very stiff

I have a 704 on my boat that controls a F225. In the last few months the control has gotten very stiff, it's hard to shift in and out of neutral???? Is this something I can adjust or am I going to have to have my mechanic look at it and pay him $ to fix ????

assuming you've checked/loosened your friction control screw on the front of your control unit. Disconnect cables back at motor to determine if stiffness is in the cable or at the motor. you may be able to lube the cable and free it up or replace if it's really corroded. Good Luck!
