1984 50hp oil pump

I just purchased a boat with a 1984 50hp yamaha. The oil pump does not appear to be pumping oil. I am considering premixing my oil in the fuel tank instead of spending the time and money to fix the oil pump on a 25 year old motor. This was done on an older johnson that I used to own and it worked well. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Put 50:1 oil mixture in gas until you are sure oil injection is working. Mark oil level in oil tank and check to see if oil level has dropped after you run it.
