  • Broken spark plug in cylinder

    Howdy all,
I have Yamaha 1999 9.9 hp High Thrust, spring tune up after winter indoor storage. Changing spark plugs and top plug had tip break off and fall into cylinder. Don't ask me how the end broke off the plug, I've never seen this before, very weird.Dosen't make me a very happy camper!!
Too big to pull out. I've had the piece up to the sparkplug hole with a magnetic probe, but its too big to come out(drats)!!
The motor has very low hours and runs like a top(before this happened).
How difficult is it to remove the head as that seems my only option to get the piece out without damaging anything.
Motor was not turned over at all. Any suggestions or tips as to what I should do? Are there any things I should do while I have the head off in the way of valves seals etc.??
New head gasket for sure ,but, are there any other mandatory things that should be replaced while apart?

Thanks in advance for any wisdom you guys can pass along.

The only choice is to pull head. Get yourself a service manual for timing and torque specs. Shouldn't need any thing other than head gasket and valve cover gasket.
