There are several starters for which the first and last part of the serial numbers are variable but the central part are identical (ex: 81800). Can I understand that if the central part is the same, this is an identical starter and that the others numbers identifies, as example, a specific front cover?
If it is correct and if I have such a starter, I have only to buy the correct part for utilizing the starter on another motor.

The mid numbers of part number identifies part in this case all starters will 81800. The first three numbers of part number is the series motor it fits and last part of number states changes. You will need to get the exact part number your engine parts list calls for.
