  • Thrust Washer removal

What is the best way to remove a thrust washer?

I removed the prop on my 225 HPDI with no issues but the thrust washer is on there good. I tried hitting it with a rubber mallet and even tried lightly prying the damm thing off.

Is there a tool for this? Any help is appricated.

    Thanks

If it's the back thrust washer and it's stuck on prop shaft try using 2 pry bars to remove, you can put a board between pry bar and gearcase housing to keep from damaging housing. You can use a little heat but be careful not to damage seal thats behind washer.

Once you get it off or better yet, take it into your Yamaha service center and get it replaced with the new 2-piece thrust washer to avoid this problem in the future. Mine is being replaced as a recall issue.

I had the same problem. A rubber hammer worked great. Just keep rotating the shaft and hitting the washer on multiple spots. It will eventually break free.
