  • 2000 T9.9 cold starting issues

First post. Long time reader. Thanks for all the great info.

My issue and.or question is; I have a 2000 t9.9, electric start kicker. The particular motor I have does not have an adjustable choke. Its automatic when yu push the start button. So maybe its just me, but it seems that either the motor is really cold blooded. (I bought it used) or something is wrong with the choke. When cold, you cannot put the motor under load for almost five to eight minutes or it will die. After a couple of minutes sometimes you can finesse the throttle and get the RPM's up without it dieing but its a difficult task. After the motor is fully warmed up it ALMOST runs like a champ. The reason I say almost is that if it idles for a bit when you first throttle up it has a hesitation for a second and then goes. Other than that all works flawlessly. Anyone give me a clue as to where I should start to alleviate the issue.

Usually a complete and through carb cleaning resolves it.
