  • 1990 150 ETXD Idle Issues

When I crank the engine up on muffs, she starts right up with no problems. Idle is 600-800 RPMs.

If I (in neutral of course), give it gas (up to 1200 RPMs), then throttle back down to idle speed, the motor wants to run at 1000 RPMs.

It seems the problem lies with the Magneto Control Lever not wanting to go all the way "back" after throttling down.

I am able to push the Magneto Control Lever back, it's fine, but obviously, manual operation of the lever is not optimal! It takes very little force/effort to push the lever back, reducing RPMs to normal.

I've adjusted the throttle cable at the lever as much as possible, but it still lacks full retraction.

It (the lever) seems to not want to retract the last 1/4 inch, thus keeping my idle speed up.

Any ideas what is going on with this? I almost want to put a spring on it to help it retract all the way, but figured having it work the way it should would be better!

Advance plate may be sticking, may have to remove it clean and grease.

I'm having the same problem. Any luck? What is the "advance plate"?
