    as posted by unclemugs2323:

i have a 40hp yamaha 2002 pull start i have had issues starting it. the engine has been totally rebuilt i bought it about 2 weeks ago.

the person i bought ot from has a piece of wire that is holding the red button out.

my question is if the kill switch can be removed?

i'm getting spark from the plugs and there is plenty of gas.

why do you think it is so temeramental at start up.

one day it will start up with no problem 1 pull other days i can pull it 50 times and it won't start at all.

thanks in advance for your help

Yes you could disconnect white wire from stop switch but if you have fire it's probably not the starting problem. You can buy the correct landyard cord(682-82556-00-00) for the stop switch.
When staring motor, trim motor down all the way, pump up primmer bulb and leave throttle at idle position, should start up. If doesn't may need check the primer diaphram and passges from carb bowl are clean on middle carb if it's a 2 stroke 40.
