  • 250 hpdi died and wont turnover?

Had a small weather window today. First trial of a recently installed hpdi inplace of a 250 efi on same boat. Batteries were both weak? But it started and ran good for 15 minutes. Then everything came to a slow stop. motor would not spin. I feared the dreaded hpdi worst. Speed guage had a Batt button . I pushed it til I got 12.2 Volts on both batteries. If I tried turning engine over it brought voltage to less than 12 volt.and no spin just a grunt. After getting boat back to house I put one battery on charge for 15 minutes and the motor did turn over about half as fast as normal? Is it just bad 3 or 4 year old batteries? Thats easy to fix. why didnt the engine charging system keep the engine running even if the battery was worn out?

Sounds like a bad battery, if battery voltage drops below 10 volts a HPDI engine will shut down.
