We are buying a 2001 model monteray with a 130 saltwater series motor. We took it for a sea trial on the weekend. It goes like a dream, but has this rattle when you get the revs up. The guy we are buying it from says that he has taken it to be checked and says its a common problem. Does anyone else experience this rattle? Sounds like a rattle snake. This is the only thing holding us back at the moment from buying

They did rattle at idle in gear on the older 130, the pinion gear would push the drive up and at low speed it fal back down and up and down motion would cause a rattle, but as soon as you throttle up it will stop rattling. A 2001 should already have the kit in water pump to eliminate this problem and would need to checked. A loose prop can also cause this. -
I will get those things checked out.I cant see it being anything major. I was told it could even be a loose steering arm nut. Thanks for the advice
