  • Position of motor on transom

    60HP Yamaha outboard

The motor is installed on a MacGregor26 power sailer. (www.macgregor26.com) The anti-cavitation plate does not line up to the bottom of the boat. It is actually about 2 inches lower. Should it be changed? What is the impact of leaving it as it is or benefit of changing it?

It probably wont plain the boat out so it wouldn't make much difference, If it's too low then you may get a water spray coming up from the front of motor.

The boat is supposed to be able to run at 24mph with a 50HP.

With the Yamaha 60hp I have been only able to achieve 19mph.

It has the standard prop and I am not sure of the rpms. I am in the process of connecting a tach.

Before I change anything else I wanted to make sure that the motor was mounted properly.

Raising the engine should allow it to perform more efficiently.

yes the cav plate should line up with the bottom of the boat, ive raised them a couple nothes above but ensure if you do you get enough water into the lower unit and keep an eye on your rpms as if the prop is too high it may overrev, throwing it into "safemode"
