  • Lower unit oil

Checked my lower unit oil level yesterday on my new (to me) 1999 130 yamaha. Stupid question when I pulled the plug on the lower unit I should be able to see oil and did not. The oil level overflow, for lack of the correct term is above this. Overflow is a small pin hole, correct. Also noticed a small amount of oil on the skeg below the prop. Is there a lower seal at the prop shaft that could be leaking?? Is there a special oil that I should use?? Help please!!!

you have ONE overflow hole(top screw) and ONE fill/drain hole(bottom screw).

when filling from bottom lower unit gear oil should come out of the top hole, then replace both screws firmly makin sure both gaskets are in place.

if you have oil coming from shaft seal, you may wanna remove prop to see, then you will need a seal there.

it would be in your best interest to get a manual.
