  • Small Crack in lower unit just above prop

I have just noticed a small crack appearing on my lower unit just above the prop on a 2001 115. I am not aware of hitting anything that may have caused this. Have you ever heard of this and can it be fixed?
    Thanks

If it's the cavitation plate that's cracked then that is usually from something getting between the prop and cavitation plate. You can have the cavitation plate welded.

If its on the plate no real worries but if its in the area around prop shaft fix it quick, and if you use it in salt, fix it quicker as the salt will corrode the crack and make it spread.

The crack is on the housing near the prop between the cavitation plate and the prop shaft.
        How do I fix this?

take it to a good aluminum welder and keep in mind the heat factor on the seals, you probably should have the unit pressure tested after the work to ensure the seal integrity.

Are you leaking fluid? If so, have you had below freezing weather? You could of had water in the lower unit.
            Good luck
