Hi can anyone tell me if its possible to fit an ammeter to my 1999 40xwt outboard. have tried but when i connect it up as per instructions the tachometer stops working?? Connections are earth batt and alt - , positive and earth arent a problem but the alt - is ! i have been putting a wire into either green wire that goes to the rectifier either one thats when the tacho knocks out, suggestions plse !!! lee.

An ammeter would need to go between red wire at voltage regulator and battery lead. It's easier to install a voltmeter at dash using the yellow(key on power) wire.

No the yellow wire is just 12 volts with key on and can be used for a voltmeter, do not use for an ampmeter. I would not install an ampmeter on a outboard motor because it has to be installed in series.
