  • what are correct main switch readings?

I am trying to isolate an electrical problem with my 1994 yamaha 50 hp ER.
I came across a bad continuity reading on the main (key) switch if I read the Manual correctly.

According to the Yamaha 40Q/50Q P50Q Service Manual (1991) there should be Discontinity between the yellow and red wires when the key is in the START position. On mine, the readings are as the manual states: Key OFF/Discontinuity, Key ON/Continuity, but when in START I still have Continuity.

Could this be a misprint in the manual, or did I find my problem?

Thats ok, some motors require key on power in start position.

Thanks for the reply. My problem , I believe, has been isolated to the Charge Coil.
