2004 150HP 4 stoke Trim Guage

On my last trip out, the trim indicator moved to the top of the range rather than the bottom. That is, when the motor is all the way down, the trim indicator is about 3/4 lit up. When I trim it up, the top bars on the indicator light up showing the movement.

I have round, digital yamaha guages.

What changed and how do I fix it?

the plastic cam most likely broke...it is attached to the tilt tube , below lower cowl in front,its a black ring.
