  • Emergency waterpump

If your waterpump fails while you're on the water, is it feasible to temporarily connect a battery-operated or manual pump to the flushing connector and reverse the flow through the motor? Perhaps something such as a bilge pump with a male connctor would serve. Mine failed on my F25 awhile back. The motor overheated and wouldn't start. Fortunately a good samaritan towed me to the dock. The motor wasn't damaged. Now I'm constantly worried about it happening again. Takes some of the fun out of fishing.

Now THAT is a terrific idea.

Does anybody know if this will work to enable someone to limp home?

Maybe connect a fitting to the hose from a live well pump. Yes?

The standard bilge or aerator pump probably would not pump enough water or pressure. A large washdown pump might but I haven't tried it. Replacing water pump every couple of years as part of routine maintenance is recommended.
