  • 3 HP OUtboard 198?

    Hi - great information here!

I am the new owner of a 3 hp Yamaha 2 stroke outboard. It starts and runs well and I am looking forward to many happy days pushing my small inflatable dinghy around cape cod.

My first question has to do with oil ratio - the seller (who bought the unit new) told me he used 100:1 - some here recommend going richer for the first tank because it hasn't been run much for a few years.

Next is the water pump - it is apparently original, and I would like to change it now to have some piece of mind next summer - any tips on where to buy and how to change would be appreciated.

Gasoline octane rating? I do not have the owners manual - any ideas where to get one? My model # is 3SG, and my serial # is 001589.

Finally, "fogging oil" - is this worthwhile?

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

    The oil ratio is 100:1
The water pump is easy to replace, nothing out of the ordinary there.
    It uses 87 octane gas.
Yes when you put in storage use fogging oil.
