  • 99 tlrx 50 lower unit removel

I have a couple of questions about the removal of the lower unit any help would be appreciated.

    * Do you need to remove the prop prior to lowering the unit?

    * After removing the 5 bolts in the lower case and breaking the front seal is there a technique to break the seal near the back of the unit?

    * Um mm the motor only would get past 3000rpm during turns and went out with a couple of nasty sounding clunks any thoughts on this?

Thanks for any input on this I am waiting on a service manual and want to get back on the water ASAP

Make sure you remove the bolt underneath trim tab to remove lower unit.
If it's jumping in and out of gear there will probably be pieces of metal on drain screw magnet in lower unit.

      Thanks Boat.net.

      A couple of more questions.

      * After removing spark plugs why would there be water in only the bottom cylinder?

      * Engine is not completely seized but wont turn a complete rotation when applying torque to crank shaft nut any Ideas?

      Thank you
