  • cylinder head removal

    Hello all,

I have an '85 200 that appears to need a new head gasket. All but one of the head bolts snapped right at their head despite using lots of PB blaster and patience. But before I can start on them, the head must come off and it won't budge. I've tried more PB and rapped it with a hammer and wood - nothing.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks - Rob

did you already remove the water jackets as there are 2 bolts under it.

Thanks for the reply. I delayed responding to get to the boat and verify as I suddenly began doubting myself. I do have the head covers off the head and can find no other bolts. The Clymer manual doesn't show it either. Am I missing something?

      Thanks - Rob

apparently i was remembering what must have been an OMC head as i just stepped outside and saw no extras under the water jacket. IF you have studs still holding up in your head that is making it much harder to remove...best thing to do is to keep soaking it and use the pry points afterwards.
