had starting issue cleaned carbs starts fine. runs fine all the way up to high speed, if i ease the throttle up slow. problem is when i hammer it it falls on its face and stalls. if i have it above half throttle and hammer it, its just fine when i went to put the carbs back on i noticed the throttle linkage lock nut and the shifter lock nuts were loose backed off about one inch doesn't one of these control the timing advance. if i put it in neutral and rev it up it pops back through the carbs once in a while.

The carbs are still plugged. You still have blocked passages or jets in carbs. Yes the timming is set by those bolts and need to reset timming.

reset throttle and shift linkage runs like a top. as a matter of fact runs better, because the way the it was set up it never went past 3/4 throttle. i always thought it was kind of slow for a 40hp motor. i picked up another 8mph. i think whoever preped this boat didn't do a very good job.
