  • Motor STILL overheating.

    Hi guys Im desperate here.

I have a yamaha 30 esf outboard that is overheating and I need some clues!

This thins overheats when the boat is in gear only.
The Only thing I noticed on the motor is this. -When taking the thermostat out I noticed that the actual engine block has eroded around the thermostat, which allows water to bypass the thermostat, making the thermostat ineffective.
Wouldnt this make the motor run cool not hot? Is the only way to correct this problem to replace the block? ouch....

    1. I have replaced the entire water pump
    2. I removed the head, exhaust cover, and thermostat and scraped all of the crud off of the aluminum.
    3. The lower unit is free of obstruction.
4.I flushed water through the brass pipe that inserts into the waterpump and it flows without obstruction
    5. I can run the motor in a garbage can and it pee's good! The water flow even gets stronger withincreased rpm's.
