I have an 8hp motor, early 1990s. The lower unit does not seem to drop all the way down when I rempove the bolts. It simply throws the gears into reverse and goes no farther. Is there a trick to disconnecting the shifter rod?
You have to loosen the clamp that holds the upper shift shaft to lower shift shaft after you drop lower unit down about a inch loosen clamp just above lower unit.
