Is this a cheap fix? Pics included

I just bought a 1998 T9.9 pull start that is as clean as can be. However, it looks like the tiller arm was damaged during shipment.

Is this broken, or is it just missing a nut?

Hi, from the pic. it looks like it could be held in place with a snap ring, or something simmilar. Why don't you go to the exploaded view of your motor by cliccking on the Yamaha parts link at the borrom of this page and see how it is put together, them you can determin if any new parts are necessary.

I took it apart and found that the threaded casting was snapped off. Hence, the nut cannot hold it in place.

Then, I realized that my outboard model is not listed in the parts catalog online. Not sure why???

Perhaps the part can be welded. I had a 25HP that needed the tiller repaired. The bolts were frozen. I wound up breaking one, then tried to drill it out. Made a mess of it. Wound up bringing it to an automotive machine shop where it was repaired. Should have done that to begin with....

Basically The damage was welled and filled. Then re-tapped. Good as new with exception slight discoloration from the heat. Was cheap to repair, 60 bucks. Considering the alternative of a new lower cowl and labor, Hundreds of $$$
