  • tachometer for 25hp 2-stroke outboard?

    have a 2006 25MSH.
I want to hook up a tach so I can see wide open rpms and play with props. What are my options?

do i need to buy the yamaha digital tach?

is it as simple as plugging the tach into one of the wires hanging off the ignition (CDI ?) module? If so, which one?

The digital tach wont work on 25. Any tach that has a 6 pole setting will work,Yamaha's 6Y5-83540-14-00 analog tach and 6Y5-83553-N0-00 wire harness is the easiest to install. Just set tach to read 6 pole alternator, plug green, yellow and black wire from harness to lead on control box or key switch and plug all wires on tach to matching colors on harness.

if I forego the wire harness you mention,
what wires from the 6Y5-83540-14-00 analog tach connect to the ignition box?

or... are the wires on the back of the tach color coded or marked, so it would be a no brainer for me to hook it up? I'm sure I can tell the +12v and gnd wire for the tach, would just need to know what the sender wire from the tach connects to on the ignition.

      thanks
