  • 2004 8hp 4-stroke idle problem

At the end of last summers *****ing season my 8hp would not hold a constant rpm while *****ing at low rpms. With this came a pretty good vibration at low rpms only. It seems to run fine at higher rpms. I've changed out the fuel/water filter, spark plugs, quick connect gas line fittings. Any ideas would be appreciated. Jay

Thanks for the reply. The two local Yamaha dealers seem to agree. They want $100 minimum to rebuild the carb. Is this worth paying someone to rebuild or something a semi-mechanically inclined person can do?

Get the carb cleaned it will run better and I would also run the gas out of the motor if you are not going to use the motor for over 30 day or so. The bowl is so small on that 8hp that it does not take long for the gas to go bad. I have done this for year on my T8 Yamaha and have had no problems........

I decided to pull the carb and clean myself. Probably took an hour and was easy to do. Outboard runs great now. Jay
