  • Seized drive shaft?

    1989 Yamaha 4stroke F9.9AM or T9.9MXHT.

I removed 2 nuts on either side of lower unit but lower unit will not budge, not a hair. No amount of tapping works. I was thinking there must be another bolt(s)somehwere. But smeone said the drive shaft must be seized.

Would this motor still run and go in and out of gear if the shaft was seized?

How can I tell if it is seized?

What should I do if it is seized?

Did you unfasten the shift shaft there in the middle of the midcase? You have to loosen the locknut and back the long nut off the shift shaft to separate the shaft at the mid section (accessed from the leading edge area of the midcase...). I'll email you the lower unit section from the service manual to help you see it.
