  • Impeller change on 40HP

    Changed the impeller earlier today.

Manual says to grease impeller. I've greased the drive shaft - but does the actual impeller blades tequire grease too? Are we talking a thin coating on the blades of the impeller and on the inside of water pump housing too?

Also when I reconnected lower unit it went into gear. Was definately in neutral before dropping unit. I turned gear shift rod clockwise until it clicked into neutral. I assume this is correct?

One last thing - can I use standard Hypoid 90 gear oil to specification GL5, or do I need Yamlube?

    Thanks

As for greasing the impeller, try using Silglide silicone grease from NAPA. I have used it for years on rubber parts, including the impellers, and have had good luck with it. It won't breakdown rubber parts like regular grease will.

HI, the manual tells you to grease the impeller so it will be easier to get the housing on to it.NO other reason. If you do not want to use grease, use a liquid soap, like Dawn for dishes, it works and is not bad for the enviorment.
