  • Broken cavitation plate

I have a Hydrocat with 2 - Yamaha 225 FS which have about 230 hrs on them. On my last trip I notice a small crack on the cavitation plate but I never hit anything. On another fishing trip when I raised the engine in the slip half of the cavitation plate was gone.

Shall I take the lower unit to a welder or shall I buy a lower casing? I'm looking for the least expensive but want to do the right thing. Does anyone knows if welding it is a good alternative?

yes they do it all the time, i know the guy who does it here on the coast is awesome at it and i think they even sell partial skeg and cav. plates to replace the broken piece.

Thanks slim! I will definitely try the welding. I have heard of a couple good shops in my locality.
