• engine surge when trimming up

I have a Yamaha 90 and while coming back from fishing today it got on plane ok but when I went to trim up the motor the engine started reving up and down or surging.

Dave,
Could it be that you are just trimming up too far and the prop is ventilating (cavitating) - sucking air and then catching hold?

no I barely trim it up. I took it where I bought it and I traded a Key West 1720 sportsman for a Hewes Redfisher 18. We do a lot of back country flats fishing so it's a better fit. Not to worry, It has a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke on it. So I'll be around. What do you thinkl of that motor?? See ya around. THanks for the help.

Dave,
Well, welcome to the Maverick-Hewes-Pathfinder family (I have a Pathfinder 1806V) .
Come over and join us on the MHP forum at www.maverickboats.com .
I have not personally had any experience with the Yamaha 4-strokes (yet), but a lot of members on the MHP forum have them, and you can get a lot of feedback there.
For parts, of course, the sponsor of this forum, boats.net, is a great source.
Good luck ,
Ken K
