• Lower unit gear linkage

I did my water pump repair, intalled the lower unit with not much difficulty, in neutral and spun prop slightly, bolts torqued and lower unit mated fine to the uper casing. Tested an water pumped fine. However I lost my gear shift, no forward or reverse. Whats up? 2002 Yamaha 90

Cancel question, figured the problem. Did not stab gear linkage. Found out why you need two people to reinstall lower unit!

Bobber,
Don't ya just hate learning things the hardway !
I discovered on my first water pump repair that it is best to have two people - one to hold the lower unit in place while the other not only aligns the water pump tube and gear shift rod, but also threads the speedo hose back thru the upper casing.
Good luck ,
