I had recently noticed gear slipping while engaging reverse. Running wide open yesterday and motor jumped out of gear and won't engage foward or reverse. Lever on side works and the prop will turn one way in gear and both ways in neutral. Also, water pump quit working.

The shift clutch dog and gears are probably worn where they mesh togather. You would have disassemble lower unit to tell.

gears shouldnt have anything to do with the driveshaft turning the impeller, please let us know what you find out.I sheared a shaft one time years ago but on a `rude.
